WORLD-RENOWNED, AWARD-WINNING ARTISTS WITH ROOTS IN PHILADELPHIA WILL PRESENT WORK AT STANEK GALLERY’S FIRST EXHIBITION! EXHIBITION TO INCLUDE NEW & ACCLAIMED WORK BY SCULPTORS KATHERINE STANEK, GARY WEISMAN AND STUART MARK FELDMAN & PAINTERS DEBORAH FINE, BRUCE SAMUELSON AND MOE BROOKER!! FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Philadelphia, Pa) – October 29, 2015 - This November, the beautifully historic corridor of North 3rd Street in Old City will offer “a new way of seeing art” with the grand opening of Stanek Gallery, a new museum style gallery set to open its doors to the public on Friday, November 20, 2015. Founded by Katherine Stanek and Deborah Fine, both reputable artists of national and international acclaim, the exhibitions at Stanek Gallery are uniquely designed to present an art experience from the curator’s point of view. “Stanek Gallery is providing a new experience for both the artists and the art collector,” says co –founder Katherine Stanek. “We’re less concerned with being gallerists and more concerned about creating an artistic environment that offers opportunities that do not currently exist in the Philadelphia art scene." Stanek Gallery is set to shatter any pre-conceptions about an art gallery experience. Whereas in most cases it is the owners who select the work, Stanek and Fine are empowering a rotating roster of curators to choose what goes on display in their gallery. Serving the niche of an ever-changing point of view by circulating the curators and the work, visitors to Stanek Gallery are never out of options and are consistently intrigued and captivated. This signature style of showcasing art will begin during Stanek Gallery’s first exhibition, running from November 20, 2015 through January 20, 2016. The first show will feature work from gallery founders Stanek and Fine, illustrating who they are as artists and entrepreneurs, as well as fellow sculptors and painters that have influenced their careers - Moe Brooker, Bruce Samuelson, Gary Weisman and Stuart Mark Feldman. All of the featured artists in this exhibit have home-town roots in Philadelphia, but are world-renowned and widely acclaimed from the US to abroad. From Gary Weisman whose work is collected by museums around the world, to the sculptural lineage of Stuart Mark Feldman that tracks to Rodin as he was apprentice to Boris Blai who studied under Rodin and award winning painters and educators, Bruce Samuelson and Moe Brooker. All artists have taught art for years at prestigious art schools, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and Moore College of Art & Design. -more- Each of the artists will present work in the first exhibition. Katherine Stanek, co-founder of Stanek Gallery and recipient of many awards including the Segal Foundation Grant and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Fellowship awards, will present a body of work that also includes the only remaining editions of her award winning and most popular sculptures along with a new collection of drawings on fabric. Deborah Fine, co-founder of Stanek Gallery and award-winning painter, is the recipient of the National Arts Award, winner of a Vermont Studio Center Fellowship. Fine has exhibited her work in Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia City Hall, Philadelphia Sketch Club, and The Rosenfeld Gallery among others, with work hanging in New York Presbyterian Hospital as well as collector’s homes throughout the United States. Fine will present a new series of paintings and pastels. Gary Weisman is an American sculptor and teacher at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Exhibitions of his work have run from Australia and Singapore to Beijing. His art is collected and commissioned both publicly and privately, in the U.S., Canada, China and the Middle East, as well as being honored at the White House for his work at the American Embassies in Bandar Seri Begawan and North Vietnam. For the Stanek exhibit, Gary is sharing works that are part of a series that also is collected by museums in Europe. Bruce Samuelson, an award-winning Pennsylvania artist and recipient of the Percy M. Owens Memorial Award for Distinguished Pennsylvania Artist, has exhibited in more than 30 one-person exhibitions across the country and represented by New York galleries. Exclusively at the Stanek Gallery, Bruce will share many works that have yet to be seen in Philadelphia. Stuart Mark Feldman a highly accomplished sculptor, sought after portrait artist and exceptional teacher exhibiting for the first time his remarkable ecorche that is unlike any such sculpture in existence and coveted by artists and instructors alike. Other examples of Feldman's sculptural talents will also be on display during this exhibition. Moe Brooker an award winning Pennsylvania artist and widely known as Philadelphia’s most prominent abstract artist has an impressive catalogue of accomplishments. As foundation chair and professor at Moore College of Art & Design, Brooker was named Artist of the Year by former Governor Edward G. Rendell of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and was also awarded the James Van Der Zee Lifetime Achievement Award by Philadelphia’s Brandywine Workshop. He is collected by major public and private institutions including the Studio Museum in Harlem, The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Musees de Monbeliard, France, among others. Upcoming shows at Stanek Gallery will be curated by prominent artists, Hilarie V. Hawley, Curator of The Pennsylvania Academy Fellowship collection and Pennsylvania Trust Investment Management collection and Ross Lance Mitchell, Director of Barnes-de Mazia Education and Outreach Programs at the Barnes Foundation.
