3rd Street Sewer Repair Construction Update

The Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) will begin their phase of the sewer construction work on Monday, July 16, 2012. PECO has completed the work that was necessary to allow PWD access to the site, and we should now have a clear path under the street allowing us to complete our work that was originally scheduled for May. PWD will have the same timeline for completion, as well as the same road closures as before.

The timeline for this work is as follows:

 PWD to begin on Monday, July 16, 2012 with an anticipated completion 8 weeks later, with favorable working conditions from start to finish (ex., weather disruptions)
 PECO will then need to return to place their ducts back in the street before final paving can take place. Once PECO is done, PWD will restore the street from curb to curb.

As per the request of those who attended meetings and completed the PWD survey that was distributed, we have instituted the following into the working contract:

 The contractors will be working 12 hour days, Monday – Friday until work is completed.
 The contractors will be responsible for site maintenance, and the site will be cleaned and protected after each full day of work.
 There will be signage at each end of the block alerting pedestrians and vehicles that business is open. There will also be an LED sign that has messages that can be changed as needed.
 There will be “Flag Men” stationed at each side of the street to allow for proper access for deliveries that need to be made.
 A dedicated PWD inspector will be on site, each day, from start to finish. She will be the point person for every issue that arises and you should get to know her as she can make things go smoothly for you with proper coordination. Her contact information will be included at the end of this letter.
We have created a website for you to check for updates, and any information that you may want to know regarding this project. It can be found at www.phillywatersheds.org/alerts.
