Exploring motifs that have been closely tied to his experiences Travis has built a catalogue of paintings through subject matter that portray a range of emotion without giving away any answers. An uneasy and often darker meaning presents itself with closer inspection of the paintings. Perhaps his love of 80’s and 90’s pop horror films has become apparent with age in the way texture has been making a statement in his more recent work. With this, subject matter has began to take a backseat while he focuses on application of paint allowing more abstraction which in turn pushes his figures further away from the viewer. In his newest body of work Travis has chosen one of his earliest subjects titled Birthday Girls allowing him to work relentlessly without an inward search to present us with narrative and rather sharing with us his obsession of studying relationships of color and a looser brush stroke.
