Free First Friday: Fiber Mindfulness (Felt, Weave, and Knit)

All ages and abilities welcome. Loom demonstrations, needle felting, and free knitting lessons in Studio 16.

Students will create an original felted , woven or knitted object to adorn a bag or coat or to leave a mark on other locations for the more adventurous.

Knitting students will learn to cast on, knit and purl, and to cast off. Students will be shown how to stitch the fabric into shapes.

Bonnie MacAllister has taught knitting at United by Blue and various community venues. Her curated knitted installations have been exhibited in Ardmore, Lancaster Avenue, and in Maplewood Mall in Germantown.

As seen on WHYY: “MacAllister noted that she likes the way natural variations in the yarn itself, and the shape of the underlying object, help to determine the final product.”

MacAllister curated “Phantastic Phibers” last July on Cherry Street Pier and will return August 2025 with “Weaving on the Waterfront.”
