Kacper Abolik: Ritual and Dance
Solo exhibition of recent paintings by Polish-American painter Kacper Abolik.
Exhibition Description:
Moving through daily rituals we stretch and clasp hands together in religious manners, assemble in halls, sing, dance, prepare and eat food. Calculated and free movements of the body are explored each day. Even as we sleep, we persist in unconscious motion, traversing through the landscapes of our dreams.
Kacper has been fascinated by rituals since he was a child. He is drawn to the subtle gestures, synchronized movements, sacred objects, and symbols present in occult and earthly rites alike. These paintings portray figures immersed in the act of ritual. His subjects appear entranced in ceremony or adrift amongst the chaos.
Artist Bio:
Kacper Abolik is a Polish-American painter who lives and works in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. Being raised by parents who were avid art collectors, a jazz musician father and clothing designing mother both Polish immigrants, Abolik combines all his museum and gallery exposure as a youth to create a new vision of contemporary style. His painting began to develop while studying under Dr. Barnaby Ruhe, establishing a firm trajectory for Abolik to expand upon the animalistic eighties NYC art movement directly from one of its own. Engaging modern symbology and calling in a sacred reverence for each subject, his paintings serve as windows into the identity of his subjects, intertwining culture and technology to convey emotion and anchor human existence.
Abolik has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, Pennsylvania and at the Salomon Arts Gallery in New York City. He has been in various group exhibitions including “Norwood’s Harriet” at Norwood Club, in New York City and “AWGE Art Basel” at Soho Beach House, Miami, Florida. He draws inspiration from his own consciousness and historical art traditions, employing a unique lens on figure studies, that has led to significant commissions with A$AP Rocky and L.A. restaurant Horses.
He is currently exploring new painting materials with oils and natural pigments locally sourced as well as pigments sourced from travels across the world, enabling him to continue experimenting by visually jousting with art historical motifs reassembled within recent frameworks of our time. Rooted in one's own mind a dream power comes into play with bold marks remaining active on the surface engaging the viewer to participate in a sacred exchange of hidden information.
