Read the Revolution Speaker Series with Dr. Michael D. Hattem

On Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6:30 p.m., author and historian Dr. Michael D. Hattem will join the Museum of the American Revolution’s Read the Revolution Speaker Series to present a hybrid lecture and discussion inspired by his latest book, “The Memory of ‘76: The Revolution in American History.” Throughout the evening, Hattem will discuss the Revolution's unique role in American politics and culture as a national "origin myth” and will explore how generations of Americans have told the story of the Revolutionary War’s events. He will also discuss how politics have shaped how the Revolution is remembered, the long tradition of "the unfinished Revolution" in American history, and will offer insights into the history of the changing relationship between the American people and their Revolution as we approach 2026 and the country’s semiquincentennial anniversary. Following the presentation, Museum President and CEO Dr. R. Scott Stephenson will join Hattem onstage to facilitate an interview and a live Q&A with both onsite and online audiences.

This special program will be held in the Museum’s Liberty Hall and will also be broadcast live via Zoom. Doors open at 6 p.m. for onsite guests to see a featured artifact from the Museum collection, enjoy refreshments at a cash bar, and purchase signed copies of the featured book. On-site tickets include Zoom access and are $20 or $15 for Museum Members. Online-only access is $12 or $10 for Museum Members. This event is free for Revolution Society & George Washington Council Members. See event listing to purchase tickets online.
